Program: English Through Film and Drama

Goal: To promote English Language and Film Education through hands on project based as well as text based workshops

Description:

Focus on Film, Hong Kong’s premiere not for profit youth visual arts organization, is launching a new program in learning English through film making. Programs are either project based or text based. Film education is empahsised as participants hone conversational and written english skills through hands on workshops that cover a wide spectrum of subjects from film analysis to film criticism and all aspects of film production. Participating schools looking to fulfill the government initiative to provide students with quality English language exposure through OLE (Other Learning Experiences) or ELE (Essential Learning Experiences) can do so through our workshops. Our programs are especially suited to SBA (School Based Assesment) requirements.

內容:

Focus on Film (FoF) 作為香港首家致力為培育青少年視覺藝術發展的非牟利組織，現正舉辦多項以電影製為主題的英語課程，附設專題研習及以文字為基礎的兩種學習模式。

透過電影教育強調學生須親身參予各項活動，以提昇他們的會話及寫作能力。課程內容包括電影賞析及評論，及多方面的電影製作知識。


我們的工作坊不僅乎合「校本評核（SBA）」的要求，同時亦能讓參與學校履行政府所提出的「其他學習經歷（OLE）」或「基要學習經歷（ELE）」標準，為校內學生提供的高質素的英語課程。

Project Based Programs

專題研習課程


  • INITIATION TO FILM APPRECIATION/MASS INDUCTION (Upper Primary and Secondary)

Class Time: 5 hours (one full half day with lunch break included)

Max class size: 150

Class Structure: Through drama games designed to stimulate creative thinking and analysis and through active watching, students are taught a new way to observe and analysize film. Student's natural love of watching film is used to get them to learn different creative techiques of analysis. Students are encouraged to verbalize their creative arguments making this workshop ideal for schools looking to stimulate public speaking technique. Participants are introduced to a wide range of classic Western and Chinese films. This unique course combines film theory, analysis and criticism with hands on activities.

FOF Provides: Instructors, films, materials, education package

School Requirement: Assembly Hall, appropriate number of teaching assistants, Projector, Sound System

Fee: 6,000 HKD

電影欣賞初階（入門課程）
上課時間： 5小時（一天課程，包括午饍時間）
每班人數上限：150

課程結構：
透 過特設的戲劇遊戲，學生將認識全新的方式以觀賞和分析電影，從而提昇他們的創意思維及分析能力。學生對電影的興趣，將作為推動他們學習各種對創作分析的技 巧。同時亦鼓勵學生透過討論，表達他們對創意的論點，以加強學生公眾演講技巧的訓練。這獨特的課程以互動形式進行，通過為學生介紹各經典的中外電影，讓他 們學習各電影理論、分析和評論等知識。

導師、電影及教學資料、教材套

學校設備要求：
禮堂、教學助理（視乎學生人數而定）、投影機、音響系統

 

  • ENGLISH LANGUAGE THROUGH FILM PRODUCTION (Upper Primary)

Class Time: 10 hours

Max Class Size: 28

Class Structure: Students are taught the techniques and protocol for shooting a film in a fun and lively hands on atmosphere. In general, three sessions are dedicated to pre production, four to production and two to post production with the last session for screening and analysis. Drama games are used to stimulate proper communication and develop self assurance. Hands on workshops get students familiar with the cameras and microphones. Shooting scripts are chosen from the school curriculum stimulating cross diciplinary activities.

FoF provides: Cameras, Tripods, Microphones, Instuctors, Education Package, Demonstration software, production expendibles

School requirment: A dedicated classroom for the activities, An easily accesible outdoor area, one or two dedicated teacher assistants, 5 to 10 dedicated computers with editing software such as Windows Movie Maker or I Movie or the equivalent, a video projector

Fee: 20,000 HKD All inclusive of materials, equipment and administration

電影製作（高小課程）
上課時間： 10小時
每班人數上限： 28

課程結構：
學生將親身參予富趣味性的電影製作活動，以學習電影製作的技巧及運作模式。基本課程包括：前期製作（三節課）、電影製作（四節課）、後期製作（兩節課）及作品放映研討會。課程以戲劇遊戲方式以助學生建立自信及改善溝通技巧。學生亦須親自動手，熟習操作攝影機及麥克風等器材。為求讓學生可以作跨領域的學習，拍攝所採用劇本均選自校內的課程。


FoF提供：
攝影機、腳架、麥克風、導師、教材套、示範軟件、製作支援


學校設備要求：
專用活動室、可隨時使用的室外活動範圍、一至兩位教學助理、五至十部設有剪接功能軟件的電腦（如Windows Movie Maker或I Movie等）、投影機


  • ENGLISH LANGUAGE THROUGH FILM PRODUCTION (Secondary)

Class Time: 10 hours

Extra Curricular class time: (approx) 5 hours

Max Class size: 28

Class Structure: Students are taught the techniques and protocol for shooting a film in an intensive hands on atmosphere that mimics a real film university shoot. In general, three sessions are dedicated to pre production, four to production and two to post production with the last session for screening and analysis. Drama games are used to encourage team building and develop self assurance. Hands on workshops on specific technical aspects of filmmaking such as cinematography, lighting, camera operation, directing for the camera, editing and producing are taught. Shooting scripts are adapted from well known works of English and American litturature and are given to the students prior to the workshops. Participants are then required to rework these scripts to the FOF instructor's specifications.

FoF provides: Cameras, Tripods, Microphones, Instuctors, Education Package, Demonstration software, production expendibles

School requirement: A dedicated classroom for the activities, An easily accesible outdoor area, one to two dedicated teacher assistants, 5 to 10 dedicated computers with editing software such as Windows Movie Maker or I Movie or the equivalent, a video projector

電影製作（中學課程）
上課時間： 10小時

戶外活動時間：約5小時

每班人數上限： 28

課程結構：
課程設計以大學電影製作課程作藍本，學生會以密集形式學習電影製作的技巧及運作模式。基本課程包括：前期製作（三節課）、電影製作（四節課）、後期製作（兩節課）及作品放映研討會。課程以戲劇遊戲方式以訓練學生建立自信及團體合作精神。而電影製作工作坊更教授各種電影製作技術：攝影、燈光、攝影機操作、拍攝指導、剪接及製片等。
拍攝劇本將取材自為人熟悉的英式及美式文學作品，並會於工作坊舉行前分發給學生。學生須因應FoF導師的指引，對該劇本重新整理。

Text Based Programs

以文字為基礎的課程


  • FILM APPRECIATION (UPPER PRIMARY)

Class Time: 10 hours

Max Class Size: 40

Class Structure: Through drama games designed to stimulate creative thinking and analysis and through active watching, students are taught a new way to observe and analysize film. Works of selected master film auteurs in Western and Chinese Cinema are shown and explained. Students are taught simple ways of writing critical analysis of the works creating their own Film Critic Journal from a template. Student's natural love of watching film is accessed to allow them to absorb different written techiques in analysis.

FOF provides: instructors, films, templates, teaching materials, education package

School Requirement: class room, teacher's assistant, student notebooks, web access, projector

Fee: 10,000 HKD

電影欣賞（高小課程）
上課時間： 10小時

每班人數上限： 40

課程結構：
透過特設的戲劇遊戲，學生將認識全新的方式以觀賞和分析電影，以提昇他們的創意思維及分析能力。課程將放映並闡釋各中外大師級的電影導演作品。學生將根據課堂所提供的範本，以多種簡單的寫作方法，編寫屬於自己的電影評論集。學生透過對電影的興趣，以理解各種分析寫作的技巧。


FoF提供：
導師、電影及教學資料、寫作範本、教材套

學校設備要求：
教室、教學助理、學生使用的筆記本電腦、互聯網連接、投影機

 

  • FILM ANALYSIS (Secondary)

Class Time: 10 hours

Max Class Size: 40

Class Structure: Through interactive activities designed to stimulate creative thinking and analysis and through active watching, students are taught a new way to observe and analysize film. Works of selected master film auteurs in Western and Chinese Cinema are shown and explained. Film theory and History are subjects taken up in the course. Critical texts of the films shown are analysed by the students who then produce their own 'publication' of critical film analysis based on the works they have studied. Student's natural love of watching film is accessed to allow them to absorb different written critical analysis techiques.

FOF provides: instructors, films, templates, teaching materials, education package

School Requirement: class room, teacher's assistant, student notebooks, printer, web access, projector

Fee: 10,000 HKD

電影賞析（中學課程）
上課時間： 10小時

每班人數上限： 40

課程結構：
學生將以互動方式，重新認識如何觀賞和分析電影，從而提昇他們的創意思維及分析能力。課程將教授電影理論及歷史，並放映及闡釋各中外大師級的電影導演作品。學生將分析各放映作品並編寫電影評論，再而編輯成為屬於自己的電影分析及評論集。學生透過對電影的興趣，以理解各種分析寫作的技巧。

學校設備要求：教室、教學助理、學生使用的筆記本電腦、互聯網連接、投影機
